β-Blockers in Atrial Fibrillation Patients With or Without Heart Failure
نویسندگان
چکیده
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) are 2 burdensome chronic cardiac diseases with an increasing prevalence as the average life expectancy increases. HF can lead to atrial remodeling, which increases the risk of developing AF. Conversely, AF can lead to HF because of the consequences of the arrhythmia itself and impairment in diastolic filling. It has been estimated that ≤40% of patients with HF also have concomitant AF.

Background: Adrenergic beta antagonists are not sufficient to prevent atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). This study was designed to evaluate the effect of ascorbic acid as an adjunct to beta-blockers in prevention of post-CABG atrial fibrillation Methods: Patients who were more than 50 years old and scheduled to undergo CABG were included if they were treated with b...
متن کاملβ-Blockers in Atrial Fibrillation Patients With or Without Heart Failure: Association With Mortality in a Nationwide Cohort Study.
BACKGROUND Recent data suggest that β-blockers are associated with prognostic advantages in heart failure (HF) patients without concomitant atrial fibrillation (AF), but not in HF patients with concomitant AF. We aimed to investigate associations between β-blocker treatment and cardiovascular outcome and mortality in AF patients with and without HF. METHODS AND RESULTS Three nationwide regist...
متن کاملEffect of Carvedilol on Reduction in Heart Rate in Patients With Chronic Atrial Fibrillation
BACKGROUND Currently, β-blockers are used most frequently for the purpose of heart rate (HR) control in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) in worldwide. Carvedilol is one of common β-blockers and known to be effective for hypertension and heart failure. However, little can be found the information about the HR-lowering effect of carvedilol in patients with AF without heart failure. Therefor...
متن کاملThe Real Role of β-Blockers in Daily Cardiovascular Therapy
The role of β-adrenoceptor antagonists (β-blockers) in cardiovascular therapy has been subject to diverse trends and changes over the decades. With the advent of a wide variety of excellent drugs for the treatment of antihypertension, β-blockers have been relegated from the first-line treatment of essential hypertension. However, they remain the drugs of first choice in recommendations from the...
متن کاملPrediction of left ventricular reverse remodeling after therapy with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers and β blockers in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy
BACKGROUND Predictors of left ventricular reverse remodeling (LVRR) after therapy with angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin-receptor blockers and β blockers in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) remains unclear. METHODS We studied 44 patients with IDC who had been treated with the therapy. LVRR was defined as LV end-diastolic dimension ≤ 55 mm and fractio...
